Break My Heart

May 28, 2010

Have you ever looked at someone and said, “Please break my heart!”?  Probably not.  Normally we enter into relationships hoping that our heart won’t be broken.  Everyone who has had a broken heart wants to never go through that experience again.

So I fully expect strange looks from people when they hear me say that I am praying for God to break my heart.  But it is true.  That is one of my biggest prayers.

But you know what?  It is a wonderfully rewarding prayer.  And although broken hearts are always painful, God is the only One who can be trusted with the permission (and plea) to break my heart.

You see, God won’t break my heart foolishly.  He will break my heart wisely and usefully.

I want Him to break my heart for the lost…for the unloved…for the broken…for the needy.

I want Him to break my heart when I see sin…shame…rebellion.

I want Him to  break my heart every time that I do something that displeases Him.

I want Him to break my heart for the things that break His.

Check out this week’s Song of the Week.  It is Hosanna, by Hillsong

“Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I have for Your kingdom’s cause
As I walk from earth into eternity.”
